Move In Days
April 10, 2011: Leaving Missoula
Sandra and I packed up our storage unit and moved it all to Choteau. It is hard to believe that 90% of the “stuff” I’ve collected fits on a trailer.
Thanks to excellent packing skills, we only had to stop once to take care of shifting cargo.

The trip from Missoula to Choteau is a three hour drive (approximately 160 miles).
The key that Sandra had only opened the garage, so we unloaded all of our stuff in to there. Our stuff looked a heck of a lot smaller in a garage compared to how stuffed it was in our storage unit. After we got everything unpacked, we went over to John Henry’s for some pizza (and appetizers) and then we headed back to Helena (100 miles).
April 14, 2011: Legislative Break
The Montana State Legislature decided to play politics in the final weeks of the session, so Sandra and I had a long weekend. We packed up as much stuff as we could from our rental house in Helena into Sandra’s Stratus and hit the road about 9am. We stopped in August at about 11:45am for lunch at the Buckhorn Bar (on the cheese burger suggestion of Sandra’s step-dad). We both had burgers, and we were not disappointed.

After lunch, we continued on to Choteau (100 miles). This time, we had the keys we needed (actually, a whole bag of keys!) and we were able to get into the house.
On our first trip into the house Sandra gave me the grand-tour to fully assess the work in the house. (I’ll post the pictures in the next post) There’s a lot of work to do - firstly from the fact that no one has lived in the house in about five or six years and secondly that the house is over 100 years old.
After the walk-through, Sandra and I made a plan of attack: we unpack, one room at a time. We unloaded the car into the kitchen and unpacked our dishes, cups, appliances and cutlery and cleaned up the counter tops.
There’s currently no water in the house due to a potential leak in the basement.
After a couple of hours of unpacking and cleaning, Sandra and I went down to the town’s lone gas/convenience station to use the bathroom and grab a couple drinks. When we pulled up to the parking lot, a Google Street View car was in the parking lot!

Now, Choteau already has Google Street View, but in their trailer they had an ATV with the “Street View” camera! I think Google is starting to do Street View for trails!
After our sodas, we unpacked and cleaned for a couple more hours and headed up to Sandra’s dad’s house in Cut Bank (about 80 miles).
